Heatwaves in Pakistan are intensifying — lasting longer, striking harder, and returning more frequently each year. What once felt extreme is now the norm. In these relentless conditions, these orphans endure days and nights of suffocating heat, often without adequate food, water, or ventilation, which makes life unbearable.

They don’t have the luxury of fans or air conditioning. For children already vulnerable due to malnutrition and poor health, this heat can be fatal.

Why This Matters Now

Children are especially at risk from extreme temperatures. Unlike adults, their bodies can’t regulate heat well. Younger children are even more vulnerable due to their size and immature temperature control systems. Without cool air, they face:

• Heat stress and exhaustion

• Severe dehydration

• Respiratory infections

• Complications from existing illnesses

• Long-term developmental damage

• Even death from heatstroke

Medical research shows that excessive heat is directly linked to higher infant and child mortality, particularly in under-resourced settings. Hospitals in Pakistan are already overwhelmed. Preventative action is our only option — and time is running out.
