London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 ·

We are a Hedgehog rescue charity and we take in injured and sick hedgehogs, we aim to nurse the hedgehogs back to full health and then release back into the wild. We are run entirely by volunteers and rescue 1300 hedgehogs yearly. We also deliver educational talks to community groups and schools.

Story

Helen like so many people in the UK loves hedgehogs. Her love for these gentle creatures has led her to become one of our volunteers in the transport group, collecting sick and injured hedgehogs found by members of the public in South Devon, bringing them to our hedgehog hospital in Stoke Fleming near Dartmouth. Helen is also a busy mum to two lively young people and works full time as a manager in a supermarket in Plymouth. Her hobby is running across Dartmoor with her dog, or around the local country lanes.

She runs with Erme Valley Harriers a local running club based in Ivybridge , and was fortunate to get a place in this years London Marathon. Luckily for us she has chosen to raise money for Prickles in a Pickle.

Every penny she raises will come to the charity and it will be used to help the 1000 plus hedgehogs we rescue each year..

We are run entirely by volunteers and have to do most of the fundraising ourselves to keep the charity going. There are very few grants available for wildlife and no government assistance either.

We are just in the process of getting planning permission to build a purpose built hedgehog hospital because we currently operate out of the founders home and this has become too small and restrictive. Therefore any money raised will help us provide a much better hospital facility for even more hedgehogs and hopefully we can do our bit to protect these amazing creatures from extinction. Sadly they have now been placed on the red list for endangered animals.
