Story

Following our Spring Survey feedback, you told us just how important you thought it was that GPs know and understand Kawasaki Disease. That’s why Societi is heading up to Glasgow THIS OCTOBER, for the 2023 annual Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Conference!

We NEED GPs to THINK Kawasaki Disease!

As many of you know, Societi has attended the annual RCPCH (the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health) Conference since 2017, with this year being no exception and we are already making plans for March 2024 – it’s a phenomenal way to engage with directly with clinicians who need to KNOW Kawasaki Disease!

Building on our remarkable success, we think it is now time to take another step forward with our mission to get Kawasaki Disease known and understood by ALL medical professionals who care for our children. So… Societi will attend the 2023 RCGP Conference, in October 2023!

A bit about the RCGP Conference:

RCGP: The professional home for GPs, led by GPs, maintaining the highest standards in patient care.

Known as ‘the must-attend event of the year for GPs and practice team colleagues’, the Royal College of General Practitioners annual conference showcases the latest clinical and policy developments in primary care.

As many of our #TeamSocieti members will know, we are already in partnership with the RCGP, an important relationship which we continue to grow going forward.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Following the Societi survey, shared with all our supporters earlier this year (a big THANK YOU again to all who completed this), all feedback was carefully reviewed and discussed by the Societi team. After noting many comments regarding a lack of support or information available from GPs, as well as recommendations and requests for Societi to attend the annual RCGP Conference, we decided it’s time to act!

BUT… we need your help! Attendance at conference has a LARGE cost associated with it – especially for a small charity like Societi. We are already well underway with our plans for the conference, but we have a funding shortfall that we are hoping the generosity, tenacity and hard work of our supporters can help us to fill!

We’ve set up this dedicated JustGiving fundraising page so YOU can HELP Societi to push as hard as we can to enable us to attend – and get Kawasaki Disease known and considered by all – including our GPs!

We are looking to raise £3,000 to cover our shortfall for this project and would be immensely grateful if you could consider a donation to help protect tiny hearts! ❤ EVERY donation counts, no matter what size! ❤

Or perhaps you’d like to fundraise yourself?

If so, we urge you to tackle that fundraiser you’ve been planning and help us reach this target! Get in touch and pledge your support!

A big thank you for your continuous support! #teamSocieti ❤

About the charity

Kawasaki disease is the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children in the UK and the western world. It's time we changed that. We have an enormous task to do. But we are going to do it. TOGETHER we will. Join us and help us protect tiny hearts. You can make a difference. Awareness of this often pernicious disease is currently poor. Slow diagnosis and delayed treatment of Kawasaki Disease can cause serious, life-long health issues. Children affected by Kawasaki Disease have excellent chances of a good recovery with timely diagnosis and the correct treatment. At Societi we know that recognising Kawasaki Disease early is THE transformational opportunity to prevent what can be devastating effects from Kawasaki Disease. Kawasaki Disease has lots of symptoms in common with other childhood illnesses so it is often misdiagnosed - this means lifelong heart damage for too many children. Each year in the UK there are more cases of Kawasaki Disease than bacterial meningitis! Everyone would spot meningitis and know what to do, because of brilliant awareness raising work by MRT. We need everyone to recognise Kawasaki Disease too.
