Story
Britain’s dragonflies need you
For more than 40 years, the British Dragonfly Society has been working to protect Britain's dragonflies and the wetlands they depend on.
We've seen incredible successes. We've watched restored ponds become home to dragonflies within months, trained volunteers to identify and record species, helped communities discover the wildlife on their doorstep and worked with conservation partners to protect some of Britain's most threatened dragonflies.
But now, we're at an important moment in our story.
Like many charities, we have faced significant financial challenges in recent years. Rising costs and a difficult fundraising climate have meant we've had to make the incredibly difficult decision to reduce our staff team.
We're now a smaller organisation – but our ambition for dragonflies has never been greater.
That's why we're launching our Help Dragonflies Thrive campaign, with a goal of raising £50,000 to help us continue our vital work and build towards an exciting future for dragonfly conservation.
Your donation can make a real difference
Whatever you can give, your donation will help us continue protecting dragonflies and the wetlands they depend on.
Your gift could help:
£50 - Could help us welcome and support new volunteers with training materials, guidance and resources.
£100 – Could help deliver an online Dragonfly Identification workshop for our Youth Panel
£250 - Could help improve a dragonfly habitat by purchasing survey equipment or materials for practical conservation work.
£500 - Could help train volunteers, community groups or site staff with the skills they need to identify dragonflies, monitor populations and manage habitats for wildlife.
£1,500 - Could help support a Dragonfly Hotspot with interpretation, volunteer training or practical conservation work, helping more people discover these special places.
Bigger gifts, bigger possibilities - If you're able to give more, your donation could help us take on larger projects and reach even more people.
£10,000 - Could help create or restore wetland habitat for dragonflies and other wildlife, supporting threatened species and increasing biodiversity.
£25,000 - Could help fund a dedicated conservation project for a threatened dragonfly species, working with landowners, volunteers and conservation partners to protect vital habitats.
£50,000 - Could help support a year of community engagement and conservation work, inspiring thousands of people through events, education, citizen science and practical habitat restoration.
