Five lives saved – but we need your help to cover the emergency vet bill.
Last week, a tiny 4-year-old Chihuahua named Angel came into our care. She was heavily pregnant after living with an unneutered male dog, and we knew she was going to give birth very soon.
That moment came yesterday morning.
Angel went into labour, but things quickly became difficult. Her first puppy was breech and got stuck - a terrifying start to what should have been a calm moment. Thankfully, the wonderful Dr Elizabeth from Highfields Vets was here for our routine vet visit and was able to step in, carefully delivering the puppy. Angel was then able to birth the second puppy, which was also breech, without assistance.
Angel rested, but we knew her labour wasn’t over. She was struggling and making no progress, so we rushed her to Highfields Vet for urgent care.
There, with medication and support, she gave birth to a third puppy, which was also breech. We thought that might be the last, but vets could feel another one still inside. Despite close monitoring and more medication to help her contractions, Angel was exhausted. She simply couldn’t deliver the final puppy on her own.
She needed a c-section. And she needed it now.
There was no question in our minds - we gave the go-ahead immediately. Thanks to the amazing team at Highfields Vets, Angel came through the surgery and her fourth puppy was safely delivered.
We now have four healthy, chunky puppies, two boys and two girls, all snuggled up with their brave little mum as she recovers from her ordeal. Angel is being a wonderful mum, and all five are doing brilliantly.
But their care has come at a cost.
Angel’s birthing support, emergency vet treatment, medications, and c-section totalled £1,000 which is a huge expense for us as a small, independently funded charity. We receive no automatic funding from the national RSPCA, and we rely on the kindness of animal lovers like you to help us continue helping animals like Angel.
Please, if you can, donate today to help towards the cost of Angel’s operation and give her and her puppies the best possible start.
Every donation – big or small – will make a difference.
Any extra funds raised will go towards food, puppy pads, toys, and care for the pups as they grow, and to help the many other animals who need us every day. Thank you so much for helping us give Angel and her babies the chance they deserve 💙
