Story
Despite clear signage across the sanctuary asking visitors not to feed the animals, someone fed him handfuls of grass — something that may seem harmless, but for Gremlin, had devastating consequences.
Gremlin has very few teeth left and cannot chew food properly when given in large amounts. He carefully grazes in his own way, only taking what he can manage.
Because of this, he suffered a severe and traumatic case of choke, which quickly turned into a dangerous blockage in his throat.
Our team watched helplessly as he struggled, before he was rushed to the vets where the blockage had to be physically dislodged.
Gremlin is now left with a badly ulcerated throat, in significant pain, and remains under veterinary care.
💸 How you can help
Gremlin’s treatment has already cost over £1,500, and as he is still at the vets, this is expected to rise.
As a charity, every unexpected cost like this has a real impact on our ability to continue caring for the hundreds of rescued animals who call Hopefield home.
If you are able to contribute towards Gremlin’s care, no matter how small, it would mean the world to us — and to him.
Thank you for standing with Gremlin, and for helping us continue to protect animals who rely on us every single day ❤️
