Story

UPDATE!!

9 November 2024

We have been busy trying to prepare all the moving parts for Khamwong’s long journey and had little time to update sorry. We had scheduled to arrive there Monday morning, to complete the payment & transfer of ownernship with the district office, and then get her onto the truck for the long journey.

Sadly we have received news from her owners that she is quite sick, she is on IV fluids and receiving medication at the camp, and They are organising transport to the hospital. We have sent Meg to get accurate updates and see Khamwong. Hopefully we will know more on her condition this morning and have some photo updates.

UPDATE!!

14 November 2024

We must share the difficult news that Khamwongs health continues to decline.

Sadly, it looks like this is the beginning of the end for this sweet girl. She will remain under the constant care of the veterinary team at the hospital, so they can ensure she is as comfortable as possible every moment of the day.

We are devastated that she will not join us. While Khamwong will not be able to experience freedom in the forest, her story will live on, as the funds raised in her name will now bring freedom, and a new life to another elephant in need. Thank you all for checking in, and standing by Khamwong during this journey.

Feel free to message us if you have any questions.

This is Kham Wong…

She needs our help!

Kham Wong works tirelessly in a riding camp, and her health is declining. She needs to rest. She has a large open wound from an abscess that's being treated. While her mahouts do a wonderful job keeping it cleaned, she still has to work, wearing the saddle on that painful wound for up to 10 hours a day.

She’s is covered head to toe in a fungal skin infection, she is weak, has very poor digestion, is in dire need of some foot care, and is being treated for anemia.

We want to bring her back to the forest, where she can regain her strength, heal, and THRIVE.

But we can't do this without your help. We have less than 4 weeks to raise the funds for her permanent freedom - that’s not a lot of time!

Please share her story or donate!

Let’s get this girl to the forest 🌱🐘
