Update on foster dog, ‘Tegan’
As many of you will remember, little Tegan came into our care last year clearly in a lot of pain. Following an emergency MRI scan she was diagnosed with a ruptured disc in her spine which the medics suspected had gone undiagnosed and untreated for some time.
With plenty of careful managed rest, appropriate pain medication and lots of TLC from her foster parents, she began to recover and following another assessment a few weeks later, her orthopaedic surgeon was happy that the disc had resolved.
We reviewed her pain relief and started some carefully managed physiotherapy / laser treatment to strengthen her muscles which were very weak from having to compensate for the pain for some time. This would in turn help to support her back longer term.
She has been doing really well up until a month or so ago when her amazing foster carers flagged up that she didn't have the spark she used to have. Following a meeting with her BTRF care team, we had our concerns that she was not as comfortable as she should be a year down the road and her mobility just wasn’t right and it was agreed that a repeat MRI scan will be needed to see if there have been any significant changes in her spine since last year
Therefore, following a further consultation with her vet and her care team we increased her pain relief to make sure she was comfortable while we launched her campaign to help pay for a repeat MRI scan.
There are also concerns that depending on what the scan reveals, she may need more specialist surgical intervention, hence we have set a target of £5000 to make sure we have sufficient funds to see any treatment right through, to enable her to get the help she needs.
Tegan is one of our very special foster girls who is much loved by her foster carers and the BTRF team - so please help us get her the care she needs. Thank you!
