UPDATE ON LITTLE TEGAN - 2nd November 2023
We thought you would all want to know how our little girl got on yesterday with the neurologist. She did really well, and the referral team were amazing with her and fell head over heels in love – and who wouldn’t, she is a very brave little girl!
The news. It’s good and not so good.
The good news is that she is now in our care and thankfully getting the help she so badly needs. The not so good news is that she is going to need an MRI scan.
The consultant feels that it is highly likely that she has a prolapsed disc and that this may have been the case for some time, even before the reported road traffic accident in her previous home. This will mean that it is likely the poor little girl had been in undiagnosed pain for quite some time.
She may have a trapped nerve as a result of the herniation which could be why she is so tottery on her back legs and their muscle bulk is almost non-existent. But at the moment we don’t have a full diagnosis so the MRI scan will hopefully help us to understand a little more of what is going on.
But depending on what they find, we do need to consider the possibility that she may also need surgery.
She is now on adequate pain relief so is feeling much much better, but the MRI scan is urgent because of the risk of further damage.
She is only young (5 years) and the BTRF team feel that with her whole life ahead of her we need to do the very best we can for her.
Because of the urgency, the referral team have fitted her in for an MRI scan tomorrow. So tonight she is having a quiet and chilled evening with lots of gentle cuddles from her amazing foster family.
All this does mean we still need your help. We just don’t know the possible cost of her care following the MRI as yet, but we do know it could be significant.
So, we want to thank our supporters who have donated so far - your generosity has enabled us to go ahead with the MRI immediately. But if you haven’t yet donated and feel you would like to, we really would be grateful as this will give us the funds to enable us to go ahead with the treatment she will no doubt need as a result of the scan.
THANK YOU ALL
