Story

In loving memory of Henry Bard

We are devastated to share the news that Henry passed away on the 26th of March 2023.

His family shared this message online:

23/5/15 - 26/3/23

Such a brave little boy. Our hearts are shattered.

Henry relapsed in June 22 and has been stoically undergoing treatment since then. Heartbroken to share that he passed away on Sunday 26th March.

Sleep peacefully little one.

Henry's story

Henry was a happy, clever little boy who loved nothing more than dressing up as a firefighter with his little brother and best friend Oliver. He was obsessed with anything fireman related.

Just before his fourth birthday Henry started to feel unwell and became withdrawn. "Over the course of a month, he stopped eating, had no energy and started to complain of pains when he walked. He just wasnt himself," says Henry's dad, Graham.

"After a couple of visits to the GP and no improvement, we were referred to the Childrens Assessment Unit at the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC), Nottingham."

Initially, it was suspected it was a virus or infection but in early June, whilst having an MRI scan, a large tumour was discovered in his abdomen. Further tests confirmed that he had high-risk neuroblastoma with n-myc amplification.

Henry The Brave

Having endured more during his treatment than most of us will have to deal with in a lifetime, and all throughout with an attitude of 'just getting on with it', Henry was given the appropriate nickname 'Henry The Brave'.

"Even in the darkest of times you can still get a thumbs up or will be lasered by his Buzz Lightyear blaster!"

In June 2019 Henry started with eight rounds of chemotherapy on the Rapid Cojec regime followed by two more rounds of TVD. This allowed him to have a stem cell harvest at Sheffield Childrens Hospital.

On 19th December 2019, Henry underwent a seven-hour surgery to remove his tumour and part of his liver. Sadly this meant Christmas 2019 was spent in hospital but the PCCU and E39 wards at QMC were amazing. Henry completed frontline treatment in December 2020 and with your incredible support, the family were able to enrol Henry on the bivalent vaccine trial in New York. Henry completed the trial in January 2022 but routine scans showed he had sadly relapsed in June 2022. He continued to receive treatment for the relapse.

Beautiful Henry passed away on the 26th of March 2023 aged 7. Following his passing, Henry's family have decided to keep his fundraising page open for those wishing to donate or fundraise in his memory.
