A High Sheriff is appointed by His Majesty The King at a meeting of the Privy Council, for one year. The Office of High Sheriff is over 1,000 years old and the key elements of the role are supporting those who administer law and order, and working with the local charity sector.
Dr Bharatkumar N Khetani is serving as High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire for 2023-2024.
"During my year, I will be largely focused on charitable initiatives across the county with a priority to provide better opportunities for young people, helping them to understand and reach their full potential.I also want to highlight the numerous small local Charities who do tremendous unrecognised work in the community but with little publicity to help raise much needed funds. The challenge is to make a real difference in a year, so I will work with the Community Foundation and local employers to promote and develop existing initiatives."
The High Sheriff's Fund was established in Cambridgeshire over 20 years ago to support this charitable work. It recognises achievement and awards grants to projects which benefit the community.
A huge thank you to all who have already donated. Any further support would be greatly appreciated and will make a real difference in Cambridgeshire.
