Help Replace 1st Highweek Village Scouts' Broken Floor

Help us replace the 50-year-old floor at Highweek Scout Hut. Without urgent funding, our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Explorers will struggle to meet indoors this autumn. Every donation helps provide a safe place for young people for years to come.

There has been Scouting in Highweek for over 100 years, with the current Highweek Scout Hut opened in 1974, and has been renovated in 2025. We currently have around 100 members, and our facilities are available for hire by anyone in our local community.

Story

What's happened?

For more than 50 years, 1st Highweek Scout Group has been helping hundreds of local young people build confidence, learn life skills and make lifelong friendships.

Our Scout Hut first opened in 1974, and while we’ve worked hard to improve the building over the years, one original feature remains…

The floor.

After five decades of constant use by Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, community groups and local hirers, it has reached the end of its life.

Unfortunately, we need to replace it, and fast. Without replacing it this summer, our young people will struggle to meet indoors when the autumn term arrives - limiting the amazing programme we are able to offer them, and making the space less versatile for both our young people and the wider community who hire it.

Why we’re asking for help

We’ve recently invested heavily in improving the Scout Hut and had hoped to rebuild our reserves before tackling the floor... Sadly, we don’t have that luxury.

Replacing the floor is now an urgent priority, and we simply cannot fund it alone - we have received a range of quotes, and are likely looking at upwards of £15,000 for a suitable replacement.

Every donation, whatever the size, brings us closer to being able to offer our exciting programme again as we move towards the winter.

How your donation helps

Your support will enable us to:

* Remove the worn-out existing floor

* Install a new, safe and durable floor, with a modern damp-proof membrane in place to prevent the same happening in the future

* Keep the Scout Hut open for weekly meetings and community use

* Ensure future generations of local children can continue enjoying Scouting in Highweek.

Even a small donation really does make a difference.

If you can’t donate today, sharing this page with friends, family or local businesses is another fantastic way to help.

Can you help in other ways?

We’re also looking for people who may be able to:

* Help identify grant funding opportunities

* Introduce us to local businesses that could sponsor part of the project

* Help organise fundraising events

* Purchase surplus parquet flooring removed from the Scout Hut

* Join our Trustee Board with a focus on fundraising

If you can help in any of these ways, we’d love to hear from you.

Thank you

1st Highweek Scout Group has always been supported by the generosity of our local community.

With your help, we can make sure our Scout Hut remains a place where young people can learn, grow and thrive for the next 50 years.

Thank you for helping us make that happen.
