Story

Every Step You Take Makes a Difference!

Join us for the 15th Annual Hike for Hospice held in support of Hospice Huntsville, its programs and services. When you participate, you will be hiking/walking/running to help ensure our community members receive the end-of-life care they wish for and deserve. Funds raised by all of the participants will stay in our community and assist Hospice Huntsville in providing care and support at no cost to individuals and their families who are facing end of life. Funding is received through government partners however Hospice Huntsville still must raise approximately $1,800 per day through events, fundraising campaigns and donations.

The Hike for Hospice is a meaningful way to celebrate and honour our loved ones. Once again, a contemplative area is available where you can write a note to your loved one and hang it on the Memory Branches, which will be planted along with the notes in the beautiful gardens at Algonquin Grace. New this year, Hospice will introduce a wind phone, where one can ‘make a call’ to their loved one and to share their thoughts and feelings. It will be set up to be a private experience for anyone who uses it. The Opening Ceremony will include lighting a candle and a moment of silence. A virtual opening ceremony will also be available at www.hospicehuntsville.com.

Check-in begins at 11:00 am at River Mill Park in Downtown Huntsville. After checking in, enjoy entertainment, activities, a cup of coffee or a sweet treat, have your photo taken or visit the Contemplative Tent and take a moment to remember a loved one. A short warm up will begin at 11:45, followed by the Opening Ceremony and the playing of the Amazing Grace leading to the walk-off signaling the beginning of the Hike. There is a 1km accessible short route, a medium route and a longer route with hills – more details on the routes will follow. You will be entertained along the route with music by local musicians donating their time and talents

There is a minimum $50 donation required by each Hiker, excluding children (12 & under), unless your total donations are $100 or more. If desired, you can also collect donations using a Paper Pledge Form, which can be found at www.hospciehuntsville.com. Hikers are responsible for collecting all donations.

Spirit Awards for the top individual fundraiser, top team fundraiser and top team with corporate matching fundraiser will be announced following the close of the Hike Campaign. The Awards will be determined based on all funds received by 4pm on May 31, 2024.

This is a pet friendly event. All pets must be on leashes. There will be a raffle draw for the “Best Dressed Hospice Hound”!
