Join Amber for the third Hike the Hill, and walk to transform the lives of young people who have faced homelessness.
Together, we will be funding a bed space at Farm Place in Ockley, so a young person can get the support they need to transform their lives and move forward into independent housing and into employment or education.
You could help someone like Ellie who Amber supported recently. Finding herself with a fractious relationship at home with her Dad and then that eventually breaking down, Ellie ended up sofa surfing with family and friends for a few months which then lead to a breakdown for her. Ellie found herself at rock bottom, spending time with the wrong crowd, facing addiction and with limited prospects until the council referred Ellie to Amber’s Surrey centre Farm Place.
The Team Leaders were always there for Ellie, they always gave her time and Ellie feels like the staff went above and beyond: “The staff really care and they’re great, they do a lot for us when we’re here and I’m grateful for that.” Ellie’s goals are to learn to drive , stay clean and surround herself with good people and just be herself. If it wasn’t for Amber, she would still be reliant on drugs and nothing would’ve changed for her: “I don’t second guess myself now, I know I’m capable of anything I set my mind to. I used to always find it hard to say no and now I have boundaries and good communication skills from the workshops Team Leaders gave. The staff are always there, its guaranteed support and they’re all amazing. They don’t think twice about staying late to help you if you need it.”
Ellie was offered lots of opportunities whilst at Farm Place, from volunteering to working to restoring her confidence. “I’ve got a purpose now and I know what I want to do with my life. I used to put myself down, but now I’m thinking positively and I’m much happier with myself and my self-esteem has grown as I used to hate myself. I’ve rebuilt my relationship with my Dad too.”
