Pippa (patron), Maggie (volunteer trustee), Emma (Senior Co-ordinator), Penny (Family Groups Co-ordinator), Amy (home-visiting volunteer) and Hayley (CEO) are joining the Cambridge Cogwheel Stride on Sunday 18th May to raise money for the work of the charity they love – Home-Start Cambridgeshire!
Emma, Penny, Amy and Hayley will meet in Histon and hike 7 miles to reach Pippa and Maggie at their starting point in Coton. They’ll then hike the final 6 miles together as a squad of six to Shelford, covering a route of13 miles in total.
They are hoping to raise £1000 which would make such a difference to Home-Start Cambridgeshire this year. Thank you for reading this far and considering supporting the squad!
Since 1989 the mission of Home-Start Cambridgeshire has been to give children in our county the best start in life. Home-Start Cambridgeshire offer support to families with at least one child under five, at times when they need us most.
There’s no doubt that for many of us, parenting will be the biggest responsibility of our lifetime. So, imagine having that responsibility and then being faced with additional challenges. Those challenges might include mental health complexities, domestic abuse, the pressure of multiple births or caring for a child with additional needs, financial pressures, isolation, bereavement; the list goes on.
Starting in the home, the Home-Start approach is as individual as the families they are helping. No judgement, it is just compassionate, confidential help and expert support. Initially, the needs of any family are assessed, and a tailored family support plan is developed by one of their Family Support Co-ordinators. Their suite of support includes weekly volunteer led home-visits, family groups, remote support and a specialist parent-child relationship therapy service.
They empower hundreds of parents every year with the skills, knowledge, confidence, and emotional resilience to raise their children to flourish. As a result, families feel more able to create nurturing environments, supporting their child’s socioeconomic, physical, and cognitive development. The science is clear that brain development in the early years, supported by stable, caring relationships, positive experiences, and enriching environments, has a big impact on life outcomes and helps to shape our society.
