Historic Tank Traps in Rye

Campaign by Rye Hospital

Our campaign is to raise funds towards the installation and maintenance costs for specially commissioned plaques to share key historical information with the local and wider community.

Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital Ltd raises funds to support the operation of the Hospital for the direct benefit of our patients and staff and also the Hub on Rye Hill. Our mission is to bring health and care services closer to home for our local communities.

Story

Have you ever wondered what the large concrete structures in the Hub on Rye Hill car park are?

Most people who visit our Hub or other areas of the Memorial site have little idea of their historical significance.

Having worked at the Hub for the past six years and with a strong interest in local history, I felt it would be valuable to provide more information about both the Memorial site and these concrete structures – Dragons Teeth/Tank Traps. To help bring their story to life, two informative plaques are being commissioned.

One plaque will be positioned beside the road and the other in the Hub car park, making them accessible to everyone, whether they are visiting the Hub or simply enjoying a walk down the hill. The plaques will also provide an opportunity for children from local schools to learn more about the history of the area and develop a greater appreciation of where they live, helping to keep this knowledge alive for future generations.

If you would like to support the installation and ongoing maintenance of the plaques, please consider making a donation.

Thank you
