Holy Cross Priory provides prison chaplaincy services to HMP Leicester, working within the chaplaincy team to provide pastoral care for the inmates. Prison chaplains bring the light of Christ into what can be a very dark place.
One of our tasks is to foster an interest in religion as part of prisoner rehabilitation. The service we provide is a preaching opportunity for the Dominican Order, and we answer questions which the inmates may have about God, religion, and scripture.
Some inmates will find a great deal of consolation in their faith, at a time where they may be isolated and cut off from their families. Normally, Mass is said in the prison every week and the chaplains will put on classes to increase knowledge of the Bible, or classes on how to pray the Rosary.
We would appreciate any donations you can make to help fund the purchase of Catholic devotional items, Bibles and other literature crucial to faith formation. We have set a target of £1,000 to help purchase items over the next few years, which the prison service cannot provide.
* £3 could provide several CTS booklets on the faith for one prisoner
* £15 could provide a Bible with Catholic commentary on scripture for prisoners who want to have access to this material
* £50 could go towards the purchase of devotional items for prisoners to have in their cells at Christmas, when they will be locked for most of the day due to national restrictions
Note: For security reasons, we cannot accept second-hand items to take into the prison. This is why we are asking for cash donations to support this important ministry which we provide.
Whatever help you can give will be gratefully received.
