Story
Each year, we run an activity break for four nights for residents which is a key part of our programmes. The time away provides an opportunity for residents to learn new skills, experience challenges, participate in team-building activities and benefit from prolonged outdoor engagement. Activities include a treasure hunt, kayaking, hill walking and gorge walking. As well as outdoor activities, there are group sessions to reflect on experiences and feelings including a Twelve-Step session.
Previous residents have found it really beneficial. One resident described his experience saying, It was right out of my comfort zone things like jumping into water for the gorge walking, but I felt safe all the time and there was a great sense of achievement when we reached the top of a mountain-climb. Another explained, It was tremendous. It broke down some of the barriers towards authority and it was one of the best times in my life.
Kayaking and gorge walking have a cost per head, plus there is the cost of our accommodation, food and petrol. If you can make a small donation towards our costs, it would be much-appreciated.
