Year 8 are embarking on a challenge to hike around Bewl Water, and then face a night outside (in the safety of the school grounds) using cardboard shelters that they will construct - all to help them understand and champion the relief of homelessness and poverty in Kent.
Holmewood House are supporting Kent's biggest homelessness charity, Porchlight, who have been working with Kent's most vulnerable people since 1974. Back then it was the vision of a man called Tom Gifford, who experienced homelessness himself and wanted to do more to support people like him, so he opened Porchlight's first hostel in Canterbury.
Fast-forward 51 years and Porchlight now works tirelessly to prevent homelessness through its varied projects such as children and young people's mental health support, advocacy, adult mental health services, and poverty intervention. All this as well as its ongoing work to locate and house homeless people across Kent and Bexley.
Sadly, Porchlight's services are needed now more than ever. But, with your help, more people can be supported away from the perils of homelessness and stand a chance of thriving. Please give generously.
