Story

Harrison was diagnosed with Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) at the age of 4. He has always struggled to climb the stairs, run and jump. Over the years it has slowly got progressively harder for him to do these activities. He always tries his best to lead a normal life and join in where he can and rarely complains or gets upset by his limitations.

As a parent of a child with a life limiting condition it is heart-breaking to watch him struggle and not being able to tell him everything will be ok, when there is no certainty it will. All we can do is keep smiling. And with the help of MDUK, friends, and family, raise as much money as possible to help the scientists try to find a treatment or cure.

We have already received unbelievable support as a family fund. We have raised over £60,000 and have a target of £100,000 in the next four years. We host an annual football tournament for companies in the construction industry as well as many friends and family taking on other challenges. People have raised money by jumping out of planes, run marathons/Tough Mudders, cycle challenges, wing walking, hosting quizzes and pamper days.

With the ongoing help of these wonderful people hopefully one day we can reach the goal of finding a cure for muscular dystrophy. Along with fundraising to find a cure, we have set up a welfare fund within Muscular Dystrophy UK, 20% of funds raised will be saved to help support our family with future welfare needs.
