Hope for Her: Africa’s Breast Cancer Mission
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Today, we bring you the story of women in Burundi who are facing the terrifying battle against breast cancer, many of whom have nowhere to turn for help. 🌸 Hope for Her 🌸 is our campaign to change that. This isn’t just about medical care—it’s about giving women a chance at life, a chance at hope.
In February 2024, we travelled to Bujumbura, Burundi. What we witnessed was heart-breaking: women with stories of fear, pain, and silence, where breast cancer strikes but care is out of reach. Some have never even heard of screenings. They are mothers, daughters, and sisters—women who, without intervention, will lose the fight simply because there is no accessible treatment.
Burundi, a country already burdened by extreme poverty, has only two mammography machines, hidden away in private hospitals where few can afford to go. Both machines, pieced together from old, incompatible parts, don’t even function properly. The harsh reality is that many women don’t survive because they can’t get diagnosed in time.
We watched as our mission had to pause, not for lack of will, but for lack of resources. There were no working mammograms, no monitors to interpret the tests, and hospitals using outdated, broken equipment. For these women, the dream of early diagnosis or treatment slips away because they simply cannot pay.
This is why we need your help.
Our goal is to build Burundi’s first cancer centre—a place where women can come to receive life-saving screenings, treatments, and follow-up care. With your donation, you can help us create a sanctuary of hope for women who right now are being left behind. Every contribution, no matter how small, can save a life.
We are asking for your support because without it, the tragedy we witnessed will continue. We can no longer stand by and watch women die from something that could be treated if only the resources were there.
Donate today. Share our mission. Spread the word. Let your friends, family, and community know that together, we can bring light into a very dark place.
Your generosity is more than just money—it’s hope for her. It’s life.
Warm regards,
The Hope for Her Team
