Story

Dying Matters in Rutland, an initiative led by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness has organised a sponsored walk around Rutland Water to raise much needed funds for Rutland's local hospices. Dying Matters in Rutland, an initiative led by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness has organised a sponsored walk around Rutland Water to raise much needed funds for Rutland's local hospices.

Most people in Rutland know at least someone who has been touched and is thankful for the wonderful care our local hospices provide to allow people to die with the dignity and support they need.

HM Lord Lieutenant Dr Sarah Furness commented; The sponsored walk is part of an ongoing collaboration between Dying Matters in Rutland, LOROS, Sue Ryder and Dove Cottage, to help ensure people in Rutland, Leicestershire and our region can have the best end of life possible. Hospices rely on the community for much of their funding and that is why I would like invite everyone to participate. Please come and enjoy the beauty of Rutland Water, good company, healthy exercise and get your friends to either join in or sponsor you! This is a great cause, and we need to raise as much funding as possible.

The sponsored walk will take place on the 3rd of April and will start at Whitwell car park from 9.30am. Walkers will be able take part at their preferred pace, with a choice of 3 routes, ranging from 5, 25 & 38km for the athletes amongst us. All ages are very welcome and even dogs can join to, as long as they are on a lead. For anyone who would like to make a day of it, lunch will be available at the Horse and Jockey at Manton.
