The Lonely and Primrose Hospital Appeal - providing the best care for rescued donkeys! Help us reach our target of £300,000 to build an equine hospital.
As part of The Flicka Foundation's mission to provide a happy and healthy home for the donkeys in our care, we have major plans to build a specialist equine hospital at the sanctuary. A specialist hospital facility on site will enable us to provide the very best care we can to the donkeys we look after, many of whom have already suffered unimaginable mistreatment or neglect.
Because of the way they have been treated in the past, many of the donkeys at Flicka require immediate and ongoing medical procedures. Those that need specialist tests, or require treatment that cant be carried out in our existing barns and stables, must suffer the additional stress of a long journey to the nearest hospital facility.
Sometimes emergency procedures have to be carried out on site if a donkey becomes unwell. Stomach tubing and teeth extractions are all part of veterinary input that would be more sterile and comfortable in a purpose built facility.
An equine hospital in the grounds of our sanctuary will;
- allow us to carry out essential procedures in a private, safe and sterile environment.
- help to reduce the stress of treatment for sick donkeys in need of special veterinary care and save us vital funds in transporting donkeys to the nearest hospital in north Cornwall
- provide facilities for around the clock supervision and intensive care, and a peacfeul place for animals to recover
- provide a valuable resource for equine and veterinary eductaion, and for vets, and horse and donkey owners, in the local area, contributing to the welfare of all equines in the region.
As we embark on fundraising for this exciting major project, we are appealing for support for the early stages of the development. This first phase will include site planning, design and permissions for the building.
2020 is The Flicka Foundations silver jubilee, 25 years of animal rescue; we would not exist without our wonderful supporters.
Please help us to provide the best care that we can for donkeys who have suffered abuse, neglect and abandonment and donate whatever you can towards our hospital appeal.
