Story
World Housing launched its partnership with Cambodian Childrens Fund in 2013, and the impact has been remarkable. 460 houses have been built generating a safe and secure living environment for more than 2,300 people in the local communities surrounding the former Steung Meanchey garbage dump.
When providing safe housing, we work with partners like Cambodian Children's Fund to who provide the critical pillars of sustainable social change.
This holistic approach means families have access to the services needed to support their children's participation in education.
Education and higher learning ensure that children, and particularly girls have the chance to elevate their employability and to escape from the cyclical trap of poverty.
The objective of the World Housing Girls to Grannies Village is to construct a holistic community based on the World Housing model of sustainability.
The village will provide a safe home and place of supportive mentorship for grandmothers (the vessels of wisdom), mothers, and younger abandoned or orphaned girls. In addition the focus for the development of the village is to empower girls to continue attending the Neeson Cripps Academy (NCA).
The Girls to Grannies Village is located 180 meters from the NCA. At roughly 4,000 square meters, the village of 50 homes will accommodate approximately 200 women ranging in age from 2 to 102 and includes girls in school, young adults in university, mothers and elderly grannies.
