iD Me

Not having valid photo iD is a real barrier to being able to secure a job, rent a flat, take training courses or get a bank account. Having photo iD contributes to a young persons self-esteem being able to prove that they are indeed a valid person.

Story

At Ryedale YMCA we have set up the iD Me project with an aim of ensuring that all our residents have valid photo iD. The best proof of identity (if eligible to apply for one) is a full UK passport.

To get a passport the young person may need support to fill in application forms, finding countersignatures and getting pictures taken. It may involve tracing a birth certificate, or even those of their parents. In addition to staff time, there is the cost of the applications and photos. By making a donation to iD Me you can help us raise £185 for each iD - that's a small price to pay for an identity.

Ryedale YMCA is a small housing project. We provide accommodation and support to young adults with an identified support need who would otherwise be homeless. Although we are banded under the YMCA franchise, our funding streams and management of our charity is fully independent.
