Rising costs of living have contributed to a significant increase in mental health problems nationwide. According to our research, two-thirds of therapists believe that financial concerns are negatively impacting people's mental well-being.
Additionally, a survey of our members revealed that 61% of therapists have observed their clients experiencing anxiety about their ability to afford essential bills. Insomnia has also become a prevalent issue, with 52% of therapists reporting that their clients are losing sleep due to financial worries.
In response to this crisis, Supporting Humanity, a mental health charity established in 2020, has stepped in to provide assistance.
Through donations, the charity has already surpassed expectations in helping vulnerable individuals and empowering them to move forward positively. Operating in North East London boroughs and occasionally nationwide, Supporting Humanity aims to address neglected issues in the community.
Our emotional support line, available daily from 8 am to 10 pm, focuses on bereavement and marriage/family matters but also extends aid in areas such as addiction, domestic violence, and suicide prevention.
Additionally, the charity offers face-to-face engagement, spreading awareness of mental health at schools, hospitals, places of worship, and offices. Free wellbeing services, including workshops and physical fitness sessions, have proven successful in improving attendees' mental and physical health.
The charity also organizes all-inclusive trips funded by sponsors and donors, benefiting older individuals by combating isolation and depression. As demand has grown, the charity has increased the number of coaches from two to three. Sponsors such as Sarah Davison, Sainsbury, MotiMaj, RotiBox Official, and Tesco have supported these initiatives.
Continued support and participation from the community are crucial for Supporting Humanity to sustain its impactful and meaningful services.
