Donkeys in Tanzania are being slaughtered

Every month, 150 donkeys in Tanzania are smuggled across the border into Kenya. They're crammed into trucks, denied food and water, and are often beaten or injured along the way. If they manage to survive the journey, they will be slaughtered for their skins.

These gentle, intelligent animals are being stolen from rural communities and are killed to be used for traditional medicine. It’s all for profit, but innocent donkeys - and the communities they are stolen from - are paying the ultimate price.

What we're doing about it

We are working with our partner organisations in Tanzania to:

• Support hungry and injured donkeys with food bundles and vital veterinary care.

• Build safe shelters to prevent donkeys being stolen from their communities.

• And petition the government to take immediate action to properly enforce the ban on the donkey skin trade.

But we can’t do it without your help.

How your support makes a difference

Every single donation makes a genuine difference to donkeys in need. As well as furthering our campaign to end the illegal skin trade, your support helps individual donkeys who desperately need it. For example:

• £5 could send a food package to keep a donkey alive during harsh droughts and food shortages.

• £25 could provide vital veterinary care to support a sick or injured donkey.

• £50 could support the building of a safe shelter to protect donkeys being stolen from their communities for the skin trade.

Start a mini fundraiser to save a donkey’s life

Want to go one step further to help the donkeys? You can set up your own mini fundraiser with a suggested target of £100 - enough to provide a complete care package for a donkey in need, including essential veterinary care, food and water, and a safe shelter.
