Story

Run the London Marathon for Barnstondale

Every child deserves the chance to discover what they're capable of.

When you run the London Marathon for Barnstondale, you're helping children and young people discover confidence, build resilience and experience adventures they may never have thought possible.

At Barnstondale, we believe access to adventure and the outdoors should never be a privilege.

Every child deserves the chance to climb higher than they thought they could, toast marshmallows around a campfire, build a shelter in the woods, make new friends and go home believing, "I can do this."

It's often the little moments that change a child's life.

For many of the children who visit us, it's their first time away from home.

- Their first campfire.

- Their first night sleeping somewhere new.

- Their first time climbing.

- Their first time believing in themselves.

For some, it's their first opportunity to do something like this.

"I don't really get opportunities like this."

Some children arrive carrying worries no child should have to carry. We've had children leave letters at home because they know their family can't afford to replace the clothes or belongings they've brought if something gets lost.

For others, the barriers are different.

We've watched disabled children leave the security of their wheelchairs behind to climb alongside their able-bodied friends for the very first time.

We've celebrated with blind children as they reached the top of our climbing tower and rang the bell while everyone below cheered them on.

Those moments stay with children long after they leave Barnstondale.

Every child. Every background. Every ability.

We work with children and young people of all backgrounds and abilities, including disabled children, children with additional needs and those from low-income families and communities facing social and economic disadvantage.

Every year, around 6,000 children and young people visit Barnstondale. Around 25% are disabled, and 34% receive support through our bursary scheme, helping ensure no child's opportunities are determined by their postcode, disability or family income.

Because every child deserves the opportunity to belong, thrive and discover what they're capable of.
