For four days Paul and Graham will be running through the Namibia desert in a single route choice with 100 to 120 km to cover in 3 stages. Temperatures will regularly reach 40ºC and above and in the heat Paul and Graham will have to carry all their gear and food they need for the race. The race will be physically demanding due to the predominance of sand throughout the route. Although some parts of the stages feature compact sand, much of the route will be made up of loose sand, making progression more difficult. There are no classic check points and only water stations will be available. Not a race for the faint hearted.
Paul and Graham are raising funds for Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation for their Second Chance Programme. Building on the work that Paul has started as Iceland Foods Rehabilitation Director, the Second Chance Programme is being set up to help other businesses support and recruit prisoners with employment once released, thus challenging soaring rates of re-offending.
The challenge is all self-funded so all money raised will go to the IFCF Second Chance Programme.
