Guitar Friends – will you support tomorrow's young professional musicians?

Becoming a young professional musician can be an incredibly difficult path to take. No matter how talented, many early-career players struggle to find the opportunities and support they need to survive—let alone thrive.

Story

As the International Guitar Foundation, we are piloting a new scheme to invite talented young musicians to join our prestigious guitar summer school in Cheltenham.

This programme will give emerging guitarists access to world-class tuition, mentorship, and a network of peers and professionals; opportunities that can shape the course of their careers.

However, many of the most promising players simply cannot afford to take part.

That’s where you come in.

With your support, we can provide funded places for these young musicians, removing financial barriers and ensuring that talent—not circumstance—determines who gets the chance to develop. Your contribution will directly support the next generation of guitarists, helping them gain the skills, confidence, and connections they need to build a future in music.

Together, we can keep music alive and give gifted young players the opportunity they truly deserve.

Your support + Their music = the Future of Guitar!

About the artists

Kieren Robert Mensah

Kieren is a self-taught blues guitarist. He performs around the UK with Katie Bradley in Katie B & the Snooks and leads his own trio, playing a mixture of original songs and traditional blues. He also performs solo, focusing on ragtime and Delta blues guitar.

KM - I’ve been playing for the past five years, spending countless hours learning through independent study, listening to the players I admire, and performing whenever I can.

I know the International Guitar Foundation’s Cheltenham Summer School would have a lasting impact on my playing. I’m particularly excited about the chance to study with Chris Corcoran, whose playing has inspired me for years and I would love the opportunity to learn from him at the Summer School.

As someone who is self-taught, the opportunity to learn from experienced musicians is something I value enormously.

Maria Jablkowska

Maria is a young, rising singer captivating audiences across London’s finest blues venues. Drawing inspiration from the timeless vocal artistry of Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith and Julie London, Maria brings a soulful intimacy and elegance to her performances. Blending vintage influence with a fresh, modern sensitivity, Maria Jablkowska is an emerging artist to watch.

MJ - As an aspiring musician I believe this course would give me access to techniques, knowledge and connections that would uplift my career and musicianship. Having a full week of intense classes with established musicians would no doubt help me become a better guitarist. I would also be excited to try the things that I’ve learned in the jam sessions and the final performance.

I started singing two years ago, starting from zero to now playing iconic venues with brilliant musicians. It took a lot of practice, dedication and hard work. Now, I want to put the same focus onto my guitar practice.
