Help Dan (Mr I Love Hertford) run The London Marathon to support Phoenix Charity.

Organised by Phoenix

Phoenix Charity offers life-saving intervention to adults here in Hertford suffering with drug/alcohol addiction. In 2023, Hertfordshire recorded 71 drug-related deaths. Approximately 12,000 people in the county are estimated to be alcohol-dependent.

Phoenix supports those individuals who fall through the cracks on the NHS and those on low incomes to access the care they otherwise would not receive. Phoenix funds these individuals to access alcohol home detoxes, residential rehab, one-to-one therapy and an intensive outpatient dayhab program.

Story

Phoenix Charity is supporting many residents in Hertford who are struggling with addiction.

Our work includes a range of services such as full medical residential detoxes, rehabilitation treatment, one-to-one therapy, and support for people experiencing homelessness. Just this week, Phoenix helped a homeless woman secure safe accommodation.

We also run annual residential recovery retreats, as well as weekly activities including sound bath meditation sessions, a women’s therapy group, and a drug and alcohol drop-in service.

Many of you will be familiar with the Phoenix charity shop, located in the heart of the community. The shop offers volunteering opportunities and a welcoming space where people can access help and support. It also provides a sustainable income stream, enabling the charity to reach and support even more local people.

The UK is experiencing record-high addiction‑related death rates across alcohol, drugs, and suicide.

Approximately 12,000 people in the county are estimated to be alcohol-dependent, yet over 80% aren’t engaged in any structured treatment.

Alcohol-related harm in Hertfordshire is estimated to cost society over £525 million annually, covering healthcare, productivity losses, policing, social care, etc.

The funds raised through this campaign will enable Phoenix Charity to provide greater support locally for those affected by addiction.

They will help to fund urgently needed treatment that could save lives which might otherwise be lost. This support will include medical detoxes, rehabilitation programmes, one-to-one counselling, and group therapy sessions.

Together we can save lives.

Thank you for your support.
