The General Synod is the national assembly of the Church of England, responsible for setting rules and policy for how things work. There are many ways in which it could improve diversity and inclusion in the Church, everything from supporting women's ministry to funding racial justice work to greater inclusion for LGBT+ people to encouraging working class vocations to ministry. But this sort of progress can only happen if enough inclusive people are elected to serve on the Synod.
Inclusive Church and Together for the Church of England are working in partnership to support people who want to stand for election. The election process can be hard to navigate, but with our backing we will give inclusive people the best chance of being elected. In 2021 Inclusive Church supported over 220 candidates with 131 being elected. This time Together for the Church of England, with networks across the Church, is joining in to aim for even greater representation. However we need funding to support our aims.
This campaign needs extra staff time to work with election candidates, produce material to inform voters, and manage regular communications to help people understand what is happening. Every donation will help us identify and support candidates, inform people about the election process, and help the General Synod sitting from 2026 to 2031 work for greater equity, inclusion and diversity.
