Story

Charlotte is a bright, determined teenager with cerebral palsy from Handforth in Cheshire. She dreams of joining her twin brother and friends at the park and on forest walks — but right now, she can only watch from the sidelines.

Charlotte is our amazing teenage daughter. She was born 8 weeks early along with her twin brother. Sadly, Charlotte suffered a bleed on her brain at birth, which caused cerebral palsy that affects all of her limbs.

Despite this, Charlotte has faced every challenge with determination and a bright, bubbly spirit. She loves spending time with other children, and she adores her twin brother — they are inseparable.

Over the years, Charlotte has undergone surgery in America and countless hours of physiotherapy. This treatment has helped her manage pain, stay mobile, avoid further surgeries, and continue standing transfers between equipment and using her walking frame. Ongoing physiotherapy is vital to keep her body strong and reduce the pain that often comes with growing up with cerebral palsy.

Now, Charlotte is a typical teenager. She wants nothing more than to join in, play with friends, go to the park, explore forest trails, and simply be independent. But right now, she has to watch from the sidelines while her brother and friends run and play.

We’re fundraising to buy Charlotte an electric off-road wheelchair. This will give her the freedom to go wherever her friends go — the park, the woods, friends’ gardens — without needing to be pushed. This would be life changing for her and mean the world to us as a family. The cost of this specialist wheelchair is around £13,000.

We also hope to buy a portable shower and toilet chair (around £1,800). This would fold into a bag and help Charlotte travel more easily, visit friends and family, and give her the privacy and independence she deserves.

In addition, we are raising extra funds to help cover ongoing costs for other specialist equipment Charlotte needs. This includes leg and feet splints, which are vital to help her stand and transfer at school and at home, and keep her feet stretched and positioned properly. Without them, Charlotte would face a high risk of needing further surgery.

We thank you for your support.
