We support education and women's empowerment projects in rural South India. We want our projects to have a real impact on the lives of our communities by facilitating access to the necessary tools towards their own independence, growth, self-development and, ultimately, prosperity.

Story

(¡EN ESPAÑOL más abajo!)

Let's start from the beginning...

WHY the 2.6 Challenge?

The number represents 26/04, the day the London Marathon was supposed to be held this year. The challenge has been created by JustGiving and the organisers of the UK's biggest events to raise funds to help save national charities.

HOW HAS THE CRISIS IMPACTED ON OUR COMMUNITIES AND INDIAN FUTURES?

The Indian government has encouraged employers to continue to pay wages regardless of whether employees can go into work or not during lockdown. However, this hasn't been respected by all, meaning a lot of families, particularly in rural areas (known as 'daily-wage workers'), have lost their only source of income.

Although we are pleased to be able to cover our 5 teachers' salaries for 2020, we still need funds for our Student Sponsorship Programme (so 10 more girls can access further education this year) and to continue to improve the facilities of our educational centres, which is what the current challenge is focusing on.

SO HOW DOES THE CHALLENGE WORK?

On 13th May, at 13:00 (UK time), each member of the Indian Futures team will be facing a challenge related to the number 2.6 or 26. Hanna, Miles, and Sally will cycle 26km! Namrita is doing 26 planks in 26 minutes, Gilly, Malachy and Dave will run for 26 minutes, Tom will do 26 laps of the balcony counting to 26 in Spanish, Kane will run 2.6miles and Anna will juggle for 26 minutes...

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

1) By coming up with your own challenge! Let us know what you're doing; indianfuturesfundraising@gmail.com,

2) by sharing this campaign on your social networks (use #indianfuturestwopointsix and #twopointsixchallenge) and joining us on the 13th! or

Thank you

Gracias
