Story
This Christmas, we are being severely affected by a large portion of our funding being cut. Please, if you arent planning on sending any Christmas presents this year, consider donating to Refugee Info Bus.
Providing people in Calais with the ability to contact their families gives a small measure of comfort in an unstable and dangerous environment.
In addition, and perhaps more importantly, having prolonged access to the internet empowers people to find out about other information, services, access applications or view media and art. This provides a greater degree of awareness and autonomy to people.
Phones in these circumstances are, for many, a lifeline.
The demand for functional, charged phones in Northern France is extremely high. Phones do not have easy access to power and internet and increasingly become damaged or broken due to the winters painfully harsh weather conditions. Since the 13th of December we have had over 50 phone repair requests.
Last month, the biggest funder of humanitarian aid in Calais announced that they will stop providing funding from the 1st January. This leaves us with a funding gap of more than £10,000 for this winter alone. This is threatening our ability to continue to distribute charging cables, sim cards and provide power with our generators on a daily basis.
Donate anything you can now to reach our Christmas and New Year target of £5,000.
