Story

Brave officer PC Mathew Parker of the Essex Police Chigwell Roads Policing Team made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

PC Parker, known affectionately as Mat by all who knew and loved him, died in a collision on the A12 at Ingatestone on the 19th November. Mat was responding to an emergency and was on his way to help someone he had never met.

Mat, a father-of-two and a keen biker outside of work, leaves behind a devastated and beloved family – his parents, wife, daughters, brother, sisters, nieces and nephews.

In the wake of Mat’s death his family have received support from Essex Police. However Mat’s devastated colleagues would like to also show their support. They have therefore joined forces with the Essex Police Benevolent Fund charity to raise funds to ensure ongoing support for Mat’s heartbroken family, both now and in the future.

Matt was a proud officer, having served with Essex Police since 2010. He served in the Loughton Local Policing Team before joining the Chigwell Roads Policing Team. It was here he combined his passion for bikes with his love of policing. He was the proud owner of a much-loved Harley Davidson and a member of the Iron Order motorcycle club.

Paying tribute to Mat, his family said: “Mat lived a lived defined by dedication and integrity. Beyond his service as a proud Essex Police officer, he was a man of strong values and generous heart. He found joy and freedom on his motorcycle, and his passion for riding reflected his love of adventure and camaraderie.

“He was a proud member of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club, where he built lasting friendships and shared countless rides with those who shared his love for the open road and brotherhood.

“Mat will be remembered not only for his courage and commitment but for the warmth he brought to those closest to him. His family and friends will forever cherish his laughter, his honesty and the strength of his character. His spirit will live on in the memories and the love he gave so freely. He will remain forever in their hearts.”
