Story

Will you help Innerleithen Pipe Band with a donation this Christmas? A donation from you will help sustain the Band through this exciting period of its history.

Innerleithen Pipe Band, also known as Tweedvale Pipe Band, has had an outstanding past 18 months, probably the most successful period in our history. Through our own fundraising efforts, well supported by the people of Innerleithen and surrounding areas, we've been able to acquire a new set of pipe chanters and a new set of drums, we've put out our largest band in recent memory, perhaps ever, - 32 players - at the 2018 Innerleithen Games Week Fancy Dress Parade and we have had a sterling year on the competition circuit taking a prize at every event we've entered culminating in taking 3rd place at the World Pipe Band Championships and being crowned 2018 European Champions in Grade 4A!

Here's a video of the band performing at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow in August 2018:

We are one of only a few active pipe bands remaining in the Scottish Borders and one of the few places where tuition is offered for bagpipes and drums as this is not offered by local schools. To illustrate the importance of pipe bands to the local community, the following quote from the Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust is illuminating:

"Pipe bands encourage teamwork, confidence, a sense of dress and discipline, fun and friendship, and they open the doors to travel too. Pipe bands are a focus of pride for schools, and build positive relations with the community. And of course, the bagpipes and pipe band drums are traditional Scottish instruments, and an important part of our shared heritage and cultural future."

We need to raise money to keep the show on the road, covering running expenses as well as instrument and uniform refurbishment/replacement. Our main fundraising focus at present is raising money in order to replace ageing uniform items and increasing our stock of uniform items. Our current uniform items have served us well - we obtained some over 30 years ago but due to wear and tear, they are now reduced in quality and numbers. We currently have a large number of band members and are about to have an influx of new band members who have come through our tuition ranks. As matters stand we have players performing with us who do not have the correct uniform items - we've been making do with old items of differing types; our uniforms are not uniform. Good quality uniforms are vital to the look of a Pipe Band from which all the qualities of the pipe band ethos illustrated above flow. We've made a start by purchasing, from previous fundraising efforts, enough Cleikum tartan material to make 32 kilts.

A donation from you would go a long way to helping us to meet our goal of completely replacing our uniforms!

As well as this campaign, we've been holding fundraising events, playing at events and making grant applications to various funding bodies. With your help we will reach our goal.

Thank you for taking time to read our story!
