Purify Your Wealth by Donating Riba

Riba (interest) is explicitly prohibited in Islam and is widely regarded as one of the major sins mentioned in the Qur’an. Muslims are instructed not to benefit from it, and any interest that is accumulated should be removed from one’s wealth.

However, in modern society it can be very difficult to avoid Riba completely. Many common financial systems — including bank accounts, mortgages, loans and credit cards — involve some level of interest.

If you have accumulated interest, the appropriate step is to separate the Riba from your wealth and dispose of it responsibly. One common method is to donate the amount of interest earned to charity without the intention of reward, as it is simply a way to purify wealth rather than perform a charitable act.

What is Considered Riba?

In Islam, Riba refers to interest gained or paid in financial transactions. This may include:

• Interest earned from savings accounts, ISAs, or other savings and investments

• Interest gained from lending money, property or goods

• Interest payments from credit cards, loans, or mortgages

When removing Riba from your wealth, you should calculate the exact amount of interest accumulated and donate that amount.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

At Lote Tree Foundation, we handle Riba donations in a Shariah-compliant manner. These funds are not used for noble charitable projects. Instead, they are allocated only to permissible operational expenses, such as cleaning, administration, and other necessary overhead costs.

By donating your Riba here, you can ensure the funds are disposed of responsibly while keeping your wealth purified in accordance with Islamic guidance.

May Allah accept your intention and place barakah in your wealth.
