Story

Irvine Welsh in Call to Support the Young People of Leith

Today, The Junction, a charity in the heart of Leith working with young people aged 12 to 21 have made a plea for support to ensure their survival.

Author of Trainspotting Irvine Welsh has joined forces with The Junction and made a fresh appeal to support the young people. A charity which Welsh is proudly the Patron of.

Speaking about their current appeal he said,

“As the challenges for young people intensify in areas of employment, finances and mental health, it’s more crucial than ever that they have properly resourced support. Organizations like the Junction are a vital part of the network of that support. Their role is absolutely essential. I’m so privileged to be a patron.”

The Charity based on Great Junction Street in the heart of Leith has today launched an appeal to raise £10,000 to help continue their vital work with hundreds of young people every year.

Speaking about the need for support Junction Chair Sophie Ewen added,

“Funding for charities is stretched all over the country just now and The Junction is no different. We offer a wide range of support to the young people of Leith and so need a diverse range of staff and suitable, easily accessible facilities.

We’ve weathered the storm of the pandemic, but things are tough just now and without an injection of income we worry about what the future could like.”

The Junction has today launched an appeal to raise £10,000 to help keep their services going through the winter and into 2024 and beyond.

As well as one off financial donations the charity is also hoping local companies of Leith will get involved, by becoming charity partners and that individuals will begin to support the organisation on a more regular basis. Together this kind of support will have the opportunity to play a vital role in the lives of the young people on their doorsteps.
