Media Makers New Film

Organised by Isle Access

Our team of young people who are disabled, have long term health conditions or poor mental wellbeing, have an opportunity to help make a short film (drama), involving workshops as tasters of different employment options. We need funding to do this

We work to improve access and inclusion for people with disabilities on the Isle of Wight, be they residents or visitors. Our work also provides an adapted cycling project, to enable everyone to enjoy a cycling experience

Story

In early 2023 we were given a small grant from Isle of Wight Council, to explore the mental health of young people with additional needs. Six young people took part and they decided to talk about loneliness, and how it affects them. All the young people have poor social skills increasing the effects of being lonely. The finished film is above.

We now wish to expand the opportunity of filming, by producing a short drama that will include various workshops, such as costume, hair, finance etc. The participants will also have the opportunity to perform in the film, and to be part of the production and editing team.

As with the original film, we will be using a professional film director, producer and film crew, plus specialists for the workshops. The aim is to inspire the participants to consider different opportunities for employment or further education
