We provide practical and emotional support to carers and young carers, improving their lives and the lives of those they care for. We support young people with severe disabilities, helping them to meet new friends and learn new activities which allows their families a much needed break.

Story

James has decided to run for Carers Trust Heart of England and complete the Warwick half marathon this year after being recognised as the carer of the year 2025.

James has been a carer for his wife Rhona for 15 years so caring is at the heart of everything that he does. On top of being a carer James also has his own medical issues with being registered severely sight impaired, with only 3 meters of sight left in his right eye after having a stroke which left him unable to walk for a while and he needed to use a wheelchair for 6 weeks while learning to take his first steps again!

Not thinking that he would ever be able to fully walk again, let alone run marathons especially the London marathon in 2024 and 2025 with this times of 4 hours 18 minutes and 4 hours 30 minutes.

In 2019 James developed a functional neurological disorder, back then James was nearly 20st and has worked very hard to get to where he is now with an incredible 8st loss, James is often seen running in half and full marathons up and down the country with his guides and has become very well known in the running community in Warwickshire and around the UK.

The reason that James wants to run for Carers Trust Heart of England is that it’s an organisation that has helped him and others around him and he wants to give back to the charity.

This race James will be taking on with his guide Alex, this will be the first time that James and Alex has ran for a charity together, they really need your support in the way of sponsorship, and please remember that all money raised will go towards helping Carers Trust Heart of England to keep their services running
