Mr Jitendra Rathod was an Associate Specialist in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where he had worked for the past 14 years. He was a dedicated, skilled surgeon who was highly regarded and respected by all, and was noted for his humility, kindness and gentle nature which had endeared him to all members of staff and patients alike. Because of underlying health conditions, he was in self isolation, but contracted COVID 19 leading to admission to the University Hospital of Wales on 3rd April 2020, where he received treatment on the Critical Care Unit. Unfortunately, and despite the excellent and dedicated care of the Critical Care team, he passed away on 6th April 2020. He leaves behind a wife and two sons. Our thoughts and sympathy are very much with them at this difficult time.
It is the wish of the late Mr Rathods wife that donations to the Jitendra Rathod Memorial Fund be in turn forwarded to the Cardiff & Vale Health Charity, through which we can help support the incredible efforts being made by all healthcare staff in the fight against COVID 19, and in particular those in the Critical Care Unit, where Mr Rathod received the most dedicated and compassionate care under extremely challenging conditions. Please join us in recognising the efforts of these brave unsung heroes who gave their lives to their profession, such as Mr Rathod, and to those who care for us through these difficult times. Thank you.
