What is the Little Black Dress Initiative?

Founded in 2014 by the Junior League of London, the Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a week-long awareness and fundraising campaign that harnesses the power of social media to highlight womens issues. By sparking conversations, LBDI raises awareness and creates change in our communities, both globally and locally.

The JLC has spent the last 99 years empowering local women volunteers by providing volunteer, leadership, and learning opportunities designed to empower our members. This group of women then uses these skill sets in their personal, professional, and volunteer lives to empower other women in the greater Charleston area. Our LBDI campaign this year focuses on uniting women leaders and those who empower women to continue to spark real change in the Charleston community.

How can I get involved? We invite you to join us by:

Wearing a black outfit of your choice and posting on social media about women who empower and inspire you.

Creating a fundraising page with us on Just Giving here.

Inviting your friends, family, coworkers, and anyone who believes in empowering women to participate in LBDI with you by wearing black, reposting, or creating their own fundraising page.

Using the iconic black outfit as a tool to introduce yourself to like-minded people in the community.

Together, we will create an online and in-person network of individuals who believe in empowering women. We will bring about change. Together.
