Closes 31/07/2025

We provide funding for the George Eliot Hospital and help provide improved facilities, vital new equipment and important research to enhance the care and treatment of our patients. We also provide funding to help staff well-being, training and create a better working environment.

Story

On Monday 16 June 2025, our very own John Walker MBE and Steve Akers will be putting their boots (and wheels!) to the ground for a cause close to their hearts.

As a precursor to Armed Forces Week, John and Steve will walk approximately 34 miles from the National Memorial Arboretum (DE13 7AR) to George Eliot Hospital (CV10 7DJ) — pushing a wheelchair the entire way — to raise funds for George Eliot Hospital Charity and shine a light on the Armed Forces Covenant and Armed Forces Network within the hospital.

🪖 John and Steve share a remarkable bond — having proudly served on HMS Nottingham together in the Royal Navy. Today, they continue to serve their community as Porters in the A&E department at George Eliot Hospital. Their journey, from military comrades to NHS colleagues, is one of dedication and teamwork.

This challenge is not only a personal test of endurance, but also a heartfelt tribute to:

• Their shared Armed Forces background

• Their current NHS service

• The patients and staff they care for every day

💙 Why They’re Walking (and Rolling!)

Funds raised will support George Eliot Hospital Charity’s mission to:

• Enhance patient care and comfort

• Fund life-saving and life-changing equipment

• Support staff well-being across the hospital

🚶‍♂️ How You Can Help

• Donate and help them reach their fundraising target

• Cheer them on along the route if you spot them

• Share their story and spread the word!

Let’s show John and Steve the support they truly deserve. From the Royal Navy to the NHS frontline, they continue to serve with pride.
