We said our goodbyes to John on Tuesday 28th March. We all miss him terribly but are pleased he has found peace after his long battle with cancer.
We wanted to create a fitting memorial and tribute to a man we all love, who was an inspiration to us all. John loved poetry, literature and education. We all have fond memories of him teaching us things or explaining how things worked, and we wanted to find a way to create a lasting legacy that was aligned with his passion for education. So we've decided to build a school in his name - so that generations of underprivileged children can receive the gift of an education and build better lives. We think it's a fitting tribute that John would have appreciated very much.
We're going to build the school with the Magic Future Foundation, established by some local friends of ours to build schools following the death of their son. Their schools are built in the 8 poorest countries in the world. They use a reliable and predictable model that ensures 100% of all money donated goes to building the school and that the school is staffed and maintained for generations to come. We chose their charity because it's fitting for John, it's local, it's personal and it's reliable.
Not only will we, and you, be able to see where the money we raise together goes - but we're going out as a family to Malawi to build the school together - so you'll be able to stay very connected to John's school through our updates and pictures.
We need to raise £35,000 to build John's school. Thank you from all of us for your generosity and support.
Love Nicky, Emily, Will and Ethan xx
