Story
The PTFA of Joseph Hood Primary School plans to build an innovative, flexible outbuilding that will improve the lives of our children and our community:
1. For pupils:
Group interventions or extra support away from the main school classrooms for our growing population of SEN pupils (currently 20% of all pupils) and also for our gifted and talented children, who benefit from quieter environments for one-to-one learning.
Pupils learning musical instruments currently do so in a converted cupboard; the building would provide a designated space for both individual and group lessons. Currently, the school choir rehearses in the sports hall after school hours, which suffers from poor acoustics, and also stops sports clubs from running concurrently.
2. For school families:
50% of our pupils have English as a second language and 48 different languages are spoken across our school. We plan to offer parents an opportunity to improve their English to better support their child's learning and allow them to integrate more in our school and local community.
Our school also delivers parent workshops to help families better understand the details of their children's education, such as phonics, KS2 SATS, Special Educational Needs, and transition to secondary school.
Sensitive meetings such as those between families, school staff and outside agencies including Social Services can take place in a private and safe space.
The PTFA have been actively fundraising to raise the money to cover the cost of the building which totals £32,000; furnishings are expected to cost another £2,000-£3,000. As of October 2019, the PTFA has raised £25,738, and the school is able to provide £3,000 from its capital buildings fund, leaving a shortfall of £6,262.
If you are able to, please help make this building a reality by making a donation - the sooner we raise the funds, the sooner we can get the building up and usable! You may also have friends and family who would like to contribute to this fund, so please share this link widely.
With thanks
