In Eastern Uganda, over one-third of girls live without proper sanitary care.
Furthermore, in the school there is a drop-off rate of 15% in girls' attendance when menstruation begins. Reasons for this are lack of proper facilities and products, and societal taboos.
To address these challenges, Equal Aqua team delivers Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) workshops at schools and women's community groups across Eastern Uganda. Our team of volunteers opens discussions around puberty, gendered norms, and challenges facing girls in schools.
With your support and kind donations, we will be able to deliver Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) workshops at the Ngora School for the Deaf for nearly 200 girls.
Your help will contribute to:
- raise awareness, break taboos and the stigma surrounding menstruation
- equip young girls by distributing reusable sanitary kits which will contain knickers and reusable sanitary pads
This will help to encourage girls to stay in school as well as preventing missing school days and early marriages. This will ensure that girls are using proper sanitary products and to discourage the use of piles paper, leaves, dirty clothes which may cause diseases. It will also restore confidence, dignity and zeal in girls.
