In Memoriam - Julian Sands

Your donation to the Lord Wandsworth Foundation will be a fitting tribute to Julian's memory. Julian truly valued the chance he was given through The Foundation, both his education and the opportunities that it opened up for him for his future life.

Story

Julian & LWC

Julian attended Lord Wandsworth College as a Foundationer in1969-1976. The Foundation remained important to him and he was grateful for the opportunities his time at LWC gave him and his family.

He last visited the College in September 2021to open our newly refurbished Nadine Uppal Theatre. It was wonderful to see Julian, hear his many stories, and listen to him read from Shelly's To A Skylark and David Hare's We Travelled.

Sadly, other plans we were working on with Julian to support the Foundation will no longer come to fruition, but his close friends and family have asked that any donations people may like to make in Julian's name go towards the Lord Wandsworth Foundation to give other children the gift of an LWC education and transform their lives, and support families who are finding things challenging.

Pease do feel free to leave a message here on JustGiving and we will endeavour to share as many as we can at his LWC memorial service and with his family.

What is The Lord Wandsworth Foundation?

Our founder, Lord Wandsworth, recognised a need to provide a vibrant, supportive boarding school environment for children from difficult backgrounds to enable them to thrive. Today, LWC keeps this vision at the heart of what we do.

The Foundation gave me the education, opportunities and start in life I could never have hoped for. I feel truly fortunate. Thank you. IMRAN SROYA (Sutton, 1985-1992)

Every year, the Foundation supports around 50 children who face tough challenges at home, which are detrimental to the child’s normal educational and social development. All of our Foundationers have lost the support of one or both parents through death, divorce or separation or other circumstance beyond their control.

+ Some are living in kinship care or in overcrowded conditions

+ Others are caring for an ill or disabled parent or sibling

+ Some are victims or witnesses of domestic violence

+ Others are living in challenging circumstances with a grieving or mentally ill parent struggling with daily routines

LWC provides a vibrant, supportive boarding school environment in which they can thrive. It costs around £1.4 million a year to support our Foundationers.

If you agree that supporting and enriching the lives of children during such a formative and vulnerable period in their life is a good thing, then please do join our wonderful group of dedicated supporters and help transform the lives of young people at LWC.

I would not be where I am today without my LWC education, thanks to The Foundation. It was here where I began my journey to play rugby for England. I loved my time at the College and I am fortunate and proud to have been a Foundationer. UGO MONYE (Sutton 1995-2001)

Thank You.
