Will, one the service users, started this mad fundraising event by mentioning to Dominic that he'd always wanted to jump out of a plane !!! Dominic, a member of staff, thought the idea sounded exciting and agreed to join him. A few conversations later Chris, another service user and Tony, a parent, both thought it sounded like a hair-raising but fun thing to do.
So what are these daredevils in for? They will jump out of a plane at 10,000 ft, fall through the air and rush towards the earth at speeds around 120 mph. This will last approximately 30 seconds before the parachute opens and they float back down to earth. The rush is spectacular and is often described as being transported to another world but they may be a little scared at times.
Why are they doing this terrifying jump? They are raising funds for this amazing charity called The Hive Avon. The Hive Avon works with adults with learning disabilities and/or autism and their families and carers in Bristol, South Glos, BANES and surrounding areas. They provide social activities, training, advocacy, and support groups all of which help build confidence, develop life skills, become more independent and live happier more fulfilled lives.
All the jumpers have generously decided to pay for the jump themselves so all of the money they collect will go straight to The Hive. Like most charities they have suffered financially during the COVID pandemic and are looking to raise money to ensure they can continue to run all of their amazing services.
Please give generously.
