Story

Kane is our amazing 7 year old boy. Back in 2018 he could not wait to meet us and arrived into the world 12 weeks early! Being very premature he spent a long, agonising but mostly uneventful 8 weeks in NICU. Unfortunately, as he grew it became apparent that he had progressing Cerebral Palsy and he was diagnosed with spastic quad CP meaning all 4 limbs are stiff and tight and his core is weak. He cannot talk.

Kane had SDR surgery in May 2022 in Saint Louis and it has changed his life.

He is very happy now. He has grown a lot and is very tall. This has posed some growing pain problems but mostly a happy boy enjoying life.

Post op he has participated in many intensive therapy programs: biweekly private physio and horse riding and hydrotherapy to get him on his feet as he builds strength and coordination and mobility. He enjoys walking in his supportive walker, bouncing in a bungee harness, going for cycle rides in his pedal trailer. We want him to continue these and to help him to access and learn to cycle a specialised bicycle.

Kane is a super boy he has worked so hard in every session and has really overcome his fear of physio and movement in general. We are overjoyed to see him improve and have fun and the opportunity for us as parents to be in the room with professional therapists is actually invaluable as his movement patterns are so complex. So, we are committed to long post therapy in the hopes that he will continue to progress and enjoy all his activities.

We see the ongoing need for intensive long term physio, occupational therapy around functionality skills, treatments and specialist equipment for mobility.

These funds raised ensure that his progress made to date is maintained throughout his development.
